Loyalty Or Eye Service

Loyalty is the quality of being steadfast in allegiance or duty. It is a high level of commitment that confers on the loyalist a sense of responsibility leading to trustworthiness. On the other hand, eye service is a tendency that propels an individual, person(s), people or group of people into doing what they think is worthwhile in the presence of those ahead of them. For example: Bosses, Supervisors, Managers..., but when these persons are not around, the reverse becomes the case. That is to say that they do nothing or do the opposite of the word worthwhile. It also applies in relationships or friendships where the confidants or the parties involved show a sense of commitment when the other is around. But when he/she is not around, the story becomes different. It speaks of falsehood! The one that is even worst is when such person(s) cannot say it in your presence but says it at your back to spite you. It is likened to betrayal!!

People are better appreciated when such person(s) come out straight saying: This is who I am... That way you already know who the person is, what the problem is, and as such it becomes easier to look for solution or map out possible means or strategy to help such person(s) rather than the otherwise.

For how long would people pretend to be what they are not? No one can hide from his/her true self for long. Someday, the true colour would show. It is a clear fact that we all have weaknesses as well as strength. This has nothing to do with loyalty or eye service. The emphasis here is pretending to be what somebody is not, or pretending to be loyal whereas disloyalty is the order of the day(eye service).

Don't sweat over it! Take out time to do some surprise turn ups unannounced. It would shock you at what would be revealed to you about some persons who you thought were loyal to you or were friends to you but are just fair weather friends or people. The difference between loyalty and eye service is attitude factor.

Loyalty does not in any way suggest that one does not have his/her own interest or life to live. It simply means that amidst your personal interest, you are still able to gain control of yourself as to show dedication or pay allegiance to whom it is due. Come to think of it, who are we trying to impress when you can actually be yourself(free), and still be loyal.

True slavery is expressed in the form of eye service, because that is where you are not free to express yourself, but trying to impress which in turn takes a lot of energy from you than when you are loyal whether the person is around or not.

Life is two ways: you lend a hand of support to someone, and someone in return reaches out to you. Sometimes, we don't determine how, or the way or method these things come to be(happen), but loyalty can. It is just a principle: The law of give and take! So, which would you prefer?
